Galaxy A series helps Samsung secure top spot in Middle East and Africa

Market research company Counterpoint said that Samsung ranked first in the smartphone market in the Middle East and Africa during the third quarter of 2019, with a share of 29%.

According to the latest Market Pulse report from Counter Point, Samsung Galaxy A series phones achieved a record number of sales in the Middle East and Africa during the quarter ended September 30, 2019.
According to the report, the mobile phone market in the Middle East and Africa witnessed a growth of 1% during the third quarter of 2019, and the smartphone market in particular, witnessed a growth of 2%. The slowdown in growth is due to crises and economic regulations in the major countries, including: Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa, which account for a quarter of the Middle East and Africa region. In these markets, the Galaxy A10 and Galaxy A20 have enjoyed strong sales, helping Samsung to take the lead.

It is noteworthy that the largest share in the Middle East and Africa, was held by the Chinese companies Samsung and Tecno Mobile, as the latter managed to overcome its compatriot Huawei in second place. However, Huawei still has a new stake in those markets that other Chinese companies, including: Xiaomi, Vivo and Opo are seeking to enter.

It is noteworthy that the African markets are still dotted with traditional phones, as these phones represent 37% of the market. The transition from traditional phones to smartphones is slow in the region due to a host of problems, such as: high cost of data and devices, and digital illiteracy.
