FBI seizes WeLeakInfo, a website that sold access to breached data
The Dark Web is full of markets where you can purchase credentials to access the accounts of millions of people. These databases were collected as a result of many hackers, and a website had even shown them outside the dark web at very low prices. Now, the FBI has closed that.
The Dark Web is full of markets where you can purchase credentials to access the accounts of millions of people. These databases were collected as a result of many hackers, and a website had even shown them outside the dark web at very low prices. Now, the FBI has closed that.
This website, WeLeakInfo.com, offers subscriptions starting at $ 2 for 24 hours to access unlimited searches and advanced search functionality. For $ 7 you had one week's passwords and other access. The cost of accessing one month is $ 20, while you can access the full database for 70 months for $ 70.
In total, the site has more than 12,000 million indexed records, with accounts, users, emails, phones, and passwords obtained from more than 10300 hacked databases. This number is higher than the database of HaveIBeenPwned, which currently has $ 9,300 million.
Now, the FBI has taken over the domain and closed this site. The site administrators were surprised to see how the FBI took control of the field, as they had no record that the FBI was investigating them. These managers have not been arrested, and are now investigating the issue as they have confirmed in their Twitter account.
Site subscribers require owners to return the money they paid in order to access this data, but currently they have not offered any solution or refund. It was possible to pay with credit and debit cards, as well as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Litecoin.
The U.S. Department of Justice also published an announcement regarding the takeover of the site where they provided all the details of the case.
