The IHS Markit on Thursday issued its report on smart phone shipments in the first three months of 2019. The report came in contrast to IDC's report, saying it was controversial.
The IDC report estimated Apple's iPhone shipments in the second quarter of Apple's current financial year at 36.4 million, down 30.2 percent from the same period last year.
After the IDC report was released, the data contained in it were analyzed by independent analysts and industry personnel, including Neil Saybart, who described the results as "embarrassing" to IDC.
Apple's data were not the only ones criticized. China's Chaoyi issued a statement on Thursday, in which it opposed estimates of its shipments, saying that IDC estimates less than 2.5 million units.
In the midst of the controversy over IDC's estimates, IHSMarket issued its report, which was more conservative in its data than in IDC and Canales.
The company estimated Apple's iPhone shipments in the first three months of 2019 at 43.8 million units, or 14 percent of the market, down 16 percent from the 52.2 million phones shipped in the same period last year. However, reports said that Apple fell to second place in the market behind Samsung, the first place with shipments of 70.8 million units, and Huawei, which shipped 59.1 million units during the same period.
According to the report, China's Obo and Shaoyi came in fourth and fifth positions respectively, with the first shipped 25.2 million units, while the other shipped about 24.7 million units.
It is noteworthy that all the figures related to shipments of phones for iPhone is not just estimates, as Apple is no longer disclose the number of shipments of its products.
