Data storage crisis - Scientists warn that there will not be enough storage space by 2025

The domain of data is set to increase by 300 percent in 2025 and there is not enough space in the "cloud" to hold the "amazing amount".

The warning comes from scientists at Aston University, who are scrambling to develop a plan that doesn't involve building more servers that currently use up to 1.5 percent of the world's electricity annually.

To address this problem, the team is developing a new technology to supply surfaces with channels less than five nanometers wide, about 10,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair.

Dr Matt Deary, who is leading the project, said in a statement: “Simply building new data centers without improving data storage technologies is not a viable solution.

“We are increasingly facing the dangers of the so-called data warehousing crisis, and improved data warehousing solutions are essential to keep up with the demands of the modern world.”
