Huawei plans to introduce its first 5G television in the world earlier this year and aims to become one of the top five manufacturers in three years.

The Chinese company plans to use TVs supporting cellular connectivity and new personal computers to challenge Samsung and Apple in the global consumer electronics market.

The TV should be equipped with a 5G unit and an 8K screen, according to sources familiar with the plan for Nikkei Asian Review.

This means that TVs can use a fifth-generation network to download content, such as 360-degree videos, which viewers can see in every direction, and virtual reality programs. However, there are questions about the availability of the broader ecosystem of these services.

The first attempt by Huawei to manufacture televisions is fueled by the desire to complete its consumer electronics ecosystem - which includes everything from smart phones to wearable devices.
Among the potential benefits of 5G TVs is the fact that they will not require fiber optics or cable boxes required by traditional cable or satellite broadcasting services.

The TV can also act as a hub for all other wireless devices at home to deliver VR VR and HD video to phones or tablets.

At the same time, the ultra-high definition 8K represents the most advanced TV screen on the market, with 16-fold increments compared to the standard 1080 pixel resolution.

Huawei is the world's largest maker of communications equipment, surpassing Apple in the first quarter of this year to become the second largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of shipments, just behind Samsung.

The company has announced its intention to continue in the era of the fifth generation, as well as 5G core stations, revealed a smart phone folding support for 5G networks, in addition to many of the 5G routers for home use, which will be available later this year.

Samsung is currently the world's largest maker of televisions, and this spring began shipping its 8K TV, but without the capacity to connect to 5G networks, starting at $ 4999.

Apple introduced the Macintosh TV in 1993, but it was not successful, and the giant technology company has not released its own television since then, and just introduced a digital broadcasting platform called Apple TV in 2006.

Research firm IHS Markit predicts shipments of 8K TVs will grow from less than 20,000 devices last year to 430,000 this year and 2 million next year.
