TikTok changes text to speech voice after voice actor sues

TikTok has changed the voice on its text-to-speech feature, just weeks after an actor claiming to be the original voice filed a lawsuit claiming she never agreed to be featured in the app. ... The feature allows TikTok users to type out text and then have it read aloud over their videos, and it's often used as

a narrator

Nearly two weeks ago, actress Beverly Standing filed a lawsuit against TikTok, due to the unauthorized use of her voice on the stage. After the lawsuit, TikTok introduced a new female voice, which sounds less "mechanical" and more natural, replacing the voice actress's voice.

A new voice started appearing on Tik Tok this week. Some users used text-to-speech to comment on Bev Standing's status, but also to comment on this new, more "realistic" alternative

The actress indicated that she recorded the above voice for the Phonetics Institute in 2018, as part of a project to translate texts from Chinese into English. However, he didn't know that the recordings would be used on the app or that in 2020, her voice would start spreading to the point of affecting her career.

Standing told The Telegraph that using her voice on Tik Tok could drastically reduce her chances for her to work, as she was afraid it wouldn't be hired by the big brands again. She did not want to be linked to content that was used multiple times on the platform to repeat "offensive and offensive" language, as she herself indicated in the lawsuit.

So far, Tik Tok has not commented on the lawsuit. However, the recent change to the app indicates that the company is taking the actress' claims into account.
