Cybersecurity company Bitdefender has discovered a group of 17 applications on the Google Play store that display ads randomly on the user's phone, even when the applications are closed, these applications include a barcode reader, car racing game, weather application and many background applications.

Although the applications come from different developers, but they have similar effects on the users phone, as they were designed to work normally for several hours to avoid detection, then after 48 hours they divided their basic files into multiple guides to evade malware detection tools, It also stops serving ads for four hours.

After this initial period, the applications begin to download or broadcast popup ads using phone data, which drains battery life, and these applications do not necessarily have to be open until popup ads appear, and they are programmed to appear at random times so that it is difficult for users to expect.

Many apps are also designed to actually remove their icons from the phone once the ads start broadcasting, making source tracking more difficult, and according to the Bitdefender report, the group of 17 apps has been downloaded more than 550,000 times, and Google said: It is aware of the apps in question and is About to remove it from the Google Play Store.

User reviews of many applications are filled with shock-warning warnings that the apps have bypassed malware detection tools from Google, and one user wrote: The app displays full-screen ads, so, never install it, as I write to file a complaint with the Google Store.

While another user wrote: The application went invisible from the list and continued to consume the battery while displaying unwanted ads among other applications.

The report, which analyzed an application, said: Users see multiple ads either inside the application or when pressing different buttons, and the frequency with which ads appear while they are in the application depends on a random value, and there is a possibility that an ad will pop up when using some of the application’s functions in half of the cases.
