WhatsApp Will Not Work on These Phones by February 2020: Here's Why

The instant messaging service WhatsApp updated its support page to announce the minimum versions of Android and iOS operating systems that support its application, in an effort to alert and encourage users of those versions to upgrade.

WhatsApp - owned by Facebook - said on the support page: It provides support and recommends the use of devices running version 4.0.3 and later of the Android system from Google, and version 9 and later of the iOS operating system for iPhone smartphones from Apple. This is in addition to some devices running KaiOS 2.5.1 and later, such as: JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

The company added that users of devices running version 2.3.7 of the Android system, and version 8 of the iOS system will not be able to create new accounts, or re-verify them. However, the service can still be used as of 1 February 2020.

As of today, December 31, 2019, users of the Microsoft Windows Phone OS will not be able to use WhatsApp, until the company has removed the app from the system store since July 1, 2019.

WhatsApp also cautioned that due to the lack of development for these operating systems, some application features may stop working at any moment.
