Qualcomm announced today, Thursday, the launch of the XR2 platform, which it described as "the first (mixed reality) XR technology platform that supports 5G networks in the world."

The semiconductor giant of America said: The current generation of the platform XR1 - which operates a number of virtual reality devices, and augmented reality - will remain in the market under the new name - XR platform for all users - and the XR2 will be the platform "that provides unprecedented experiences ”
Qualcomm explained that the XR2 combines Qualcomm's 5G modem with advanced artificial intelligence technologies, as well as its ability to support 7 cameras to provide mixed reality glasses similar to Microsoft's HoloLens, in addition to an independent virtual reality glasses with strong specifications. With this platform, a 26-point virtual reality headset can be provided to track the hand, as well as a more accurate ability to map the surrounding environment.
The platform also boasts 3Kx3K screen support with a 90fps refresh rate, and it can support 8K 3D video playback at 60fps, and it makes use of a dedicated silicone material to keep the screen lag rate very low.
Qualcomm hopes that the new XR2 platform will pave the way for mixed or extended reality technology, especially as it believes that the fifth generation networks will help its spread.
