The hackers hacked celebrity Twitter accounts in an attempt to trick their followers into cryptocurrencies. Their plan was successful. Among the affected personal accounts are Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Barack Obama, Apple and Uber.
They hacked the Twitter accounts of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Apple, Uber, Kanye Wers, Jeff Bezos, Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Michael Bloomberg, among others, to try to trick their followers into the coins. Unfortunately, they succeeded in this. In the above mentioned personal accounts, messages inciting the transfer of a certain amount of Bitcoin were posted to receive a higher amount in return. At the time of writing this post, hackers have earned over $ 110,000, as we can see from: Blockchain.
In the case of Elon Musk and Bill Gates, hackers stated that anyone converting $ 1,000 would get $ 2,000. However, in posts by Apple, Uber, and Jeff Bezos, anyone who pays any amount they will "pay you" for twice. Despite the fact that all those involved in piracy responded quickly and deleted the tweets, many people fell into this fraud.
A spokesman for Bill Gates confirmed that the founding partner of Microsoft did not publish this message on his own initiative. "We can confirm that these tweets have not been sent by Bill Gates. This appears to be part of a security issue Twitter is facing. Twitter is aware and is working to recover the account," said Teddy Schleever.
Twitter has already talked about it, stating that they are aware of the problem and are investigating it: "We are aware of a security incident affecting Twitter accounts. We are investigating and taking steps to solve it. We will update everyone soon."
