Snap acquires the company that developed its Cameos feature
Snap has acquired AI Factory, a startup that specializes in computer vision, and the two companies have previously worked together to develop a feature of the Snapchat picture messaging app.
Snap confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch, which indicated that the value of the deal was estimated at $ 166 million, however, Snap did not confirm the value of the deal.
It is noteworthy that the founder of the startup company is the Ukrainian (Viktor Shaprov) who had established a former company named Looksery and acquired it (Snape) in 2015 to become the director of the engineering department at (Snap), but he left work in May 2018 to establish a company AI Factory
AI Factory has developed the Cameos feature for Snapchat, which allows users to mount their faces onto other videos. The feature was launched last month.
