That’s why we haven’t seen a foldable OnePlus smartphone yet
The OnePlus Concept One was unveiled at the CES 2020 in Las Vegas, a mobile device with three cameras that appear and disappear. At the same show, Pete Lau, the company's CEO, explained at one of the most important fairs in the industry, why you shouldn't buy a foldable cellphone, arguing that at the moment it's not good enough.
Pete Lau participated in The Verge Podcast program where he presented his insight on foldable phones and 5G network technology. It is worth noting that Samsung has already launched the Galaxy Fold, which is expected last year in many countries, and that Huawei has put the Mate X phone for sale in China only.
During the interview, Pete Lau said OnePlus has researched the technology behind foldable phones, which they believe is not currently good enough. Additionally, he also had time to state that the positive aspects of these phones "overcome the deficiencies or defects of the current state of technology". Of course, the Chinese company OnePlus is not planning to launch a foldable phone at the moment.
However, according to Pete Lau, OnePlus could make a foldable phone in the future thanks to advances in display technology. During the interview, he was questioned about many of the current foldable phones, and the OnePlus CEO said, for him, Motorola RAZR is one of the best foldable smartphones available today, but he confirmed that he still does not have an advanced screen for this type of foldable phones .
According to Pete Lau, the foldable smartphone screen is losing quality compared to the plastic OLED screen, which is the main reason the company has not yet manufactured foldable phones.
