CES 2020: Quibi, the billion-dollar streaming service, makes its pitch to be noticed

Learn about Quibi ... Netflix's latest competitor

The new broadcast service, Quibi, revealed that it is preparing to launch in the United States on April 6, as it aims to change how shows are viewed on phones, by limiting the length of its programs and shows to small clips that do not exceed 10 minutes.

Quibi has raised $ 1.4 billion in funds, and collaborated with some of the biggest names in Hollywood like Steven Steven Spielberg to make exclusive entertainment content for mobile service only, so that the duration of each show will be 10 minutes or shorter, in line with the service name Quibi, which means quick snapshats.Quibi is seen by many as an alternative to Netflix,

The monthly plans cost $ 4.99 with ads or $ 7.99 without them, and the services will include a series of series and films, which will be divided into chapters, and unlike Netflix, the service intends to display newsletters specifically prepared by BBC, NBC, Telemundo and others.

The service announced that it had partnered with Steven Spielberg to create a new horror series called After Dark, which can only be seen after sunset, explaining that the app will check the user's location and local time to make sure it really gets dark.

The company intends to keep the viewer in full frame regardless of how viewers carry their phones, and Quibi revealed during its participation in the CES 2020 a new mobile video technology called Turnstyle, which allows video consumers to easily switch between watching the same video on their smartphones either vertically or horizontally .

Technology is a big part of what Quibi believes will help differentiate its products from other video experiences like Snapchat and Instagram, and Turnstyle is usually created by merging two videos of the same scene together, one taken with a horizontal lens and the other with a vertical lens.

One of the biggest challenges for Quibi is persuading the public to persuade the public to pay for a new broadcast service, as many new players entered the stream of video in 2019, including Apple TV Plus and Disney Plus, and others are planning to launch their services in the United States, Including HBO Max and Peacock.

Netflix and Amazon Prime are also investing heavily in content with a large budget to remain dominant, but Quibi believes its main competitors are short video platforms like YouTube, Snapchat, Tik Tok and Instagram.

The service is targeted at viewers between the ages of 18 and 44 who are accustomed to watching short videos for free.

Quibi intends to release three hours of new premium content every day, except for news content, and intends to launch 50 to 60 shows when it launches, and there will be 25 shows in the form of a unique synopsis for users, and during the first year it plans to launch more than 175 new original programs and 8,500 quick clips from content.
