Sunday morning, many users of the instant messaging application WhatsApp reported problems sending and receiving messages all over the world. While the company has not commented so far on this matter.
Initially the problem was sending out audio clips, photos and videos, not sending regular text messages and links. While the service has stopped completely in some parts of the world,
Down Detector - a website that tracks website performance - has shown that WhatsApp faces problems in Europe, and parts of Asia and South America face waves of complete service outages.
As always, the #whatsappdown tag has spread on social media, and the tag has risen to the top of the trending topics page where frustrated users have moved to share their feelings and experiences about WhatsApp stops working, as the app uses more than 500 million people in a way daily.
It should be noted that this is the first interruption experienced by the WhatsApp application during the year 2020, but there was a series of interruptions experienced by users during the year 2019, most notably the interruption in the month of March, which caused the application to stop working for almost a full day.
There are currently no official statements about what is going on, how widespread this outage is, and it is not yet clear if the problem also affects messaging services on Facebook and Instagram.
