A new news report stated that Facebook is developing a new operating system that will be an alternative to the Android system for use in its devices, including: Oculus and the smart home device (Portal).
According to The Information, the social media giant has authorized (Mark Lukovsky) - a developer of Microsoft's Windows NT - to develop a new operating system from scratch.
"We really want to ensure that we have a place in the next generation," said Andrew Bose, Facebook's vice president of hardware. He added: “We do not believe that the market or competitors can be trusted to ensure this happens. So, we will do it ourselves. ”
And through Facebook's transition to its operating system, it seeks to have enough freedom to do what it wants, because it fears that any dispute with Google will hinder the march of the Oculus and Portal devices.
Facebook has long expressed fears that it does not have its own operating system and that it relies on big competitors. So in 2013 she worked on a project called Oxygen that aims to help her provide her Android apps outside of the Google Play store, if necessary.
Work on a new operating system is a continuation of the company's efforts in the field of hardware, as it opened a new office near its headquarters, with 4,000 employees, and The Information reported that Facebook had held talks to pay $ 4.5 billion to acquire the semiconductor industry company (Cirrus Logic), which makes sound chips for Apple, and others. However, the deal did not take place, however, it shows how Facebook is serious about independence even in the hardware sector.
According to the news report, Facebook is also working on a prototype of a virtual reality technology-based meeting system, which Bose has tested with his team. The report also mentioned that Facebook is in steady steps to develop the device that reads human thoughts, as the size of the device has shrunk from the size of a refrigerator to something held by hand, but it is still not ready to integrate with smartphones.
