Today, I will list five programming languages you should not learn in 2019. These languages are struggling to attract developers and employers' attention for certain reasons. Although these types of lists are always controversial. But it depends on a variety of common sources and platforms such as GitHub, Twitter, Stack Overflow, Freenode, Reddit, etc.
1. coffescript
CoffeeScript is a Web development language that is compiled in JavaScript and designed to improve JavaScript readability. There are many reasons why you should not learn this language.
The two main causes are poor community participation and poor growth. I am not saying that jobs do not exist but are getting worse.
2. Elm
Elm is also a JavaScript-based web development language used to facilitate the development of web applications. Although jobs have increased slightly, overall language growth is a concern.
Neither Stack Overflow nor Redmonk is recommended for this language in last year's report. Elm also suffers from the worst societal support and is facing a decline in growth.
3. erlang
Erlang was developed nearly three decades ago to help create dial-up applications, but it is now facing the biggest decline in community support throughout the year. Once known as building scalable applications and providing support for large-scale telephone routing, it is now in a phase where developers are losing interest in language.
Jobs still exist but do not grow as quickly as in other languages. Given last year's Stack Overflow survey, Erlang ranked ninth and most popular among the programming languages, but the language also saw a marked decline (from 23 to 50) in the Tiobe index.
4. Lua
Lua is a fast, portable, lightweight, and scalable scripting language used primarily for gaming and application development. It supports procedural programming, object oriented programming, functional programming, data-based programming and data description.
The main reason why this language exists here is the weak demand for jobs. Although community participation rose last year, the number of Lua developers is greater than their demand. Lua ranked 30th in the Tiobe Index of popular programming languages.
5. Perl
Language extraction and reporting process, or Perl has been in the top 20 of the Tiobe index of popular programming languages. Was the 18th most popular language in the RedMonk programming language classifications last year. Perl is used in system administrator functions, network programming, web server programming, etc.
But over time, developers lose interest in Perl. The deterioration of the language community seems to have overall growth also suffering. Finally, if you are considering jobs, they are also one of the reasons why you do not learn Perl.
